Final Program
This 2-day event "OOS 2004" was a real workshop with plenary sessions and a "Knowledge Café" (see below) and covered a variety of selected OOS themes. Social events on both evenings were part of the program to support networking.

|
|
Cafe Themes will include:
- Non-OOS Solutions: Satellite servicing has been proposed as a way to maintain, fix or upgrade communication satellites. However, the cluster approach where the functionalities are distributed between satellites flying in formation could permit upgrading without servicing.
- Lessons Learned in On-Orbit Servicing (OOS) and Assembly (OOA): Experiences made in servicing and assembly of the Space Shuttle Program and the ISS. For example, Hubble servicing, ISS assembly and servicing.
- OOS Providers: An On-Orbit Servicing capability requires OOS providers. Such OOS providers rely on a space industry with the capacity to build OOS systems.
- Customers: OOS Providers must bring obvious benefits to their customers: e.g. improve the operator's business.

Knowledge Café Session (Table Discussion Rounds)
Café Themes will include:
- Technology: OOS & OOA require specific technologies for rendezvous, docking and manipulation. Furthermore, various levels of autonomy, from simple direct ground control to autonomous operations in space, are needed
- Large Space Structures: Large space structures could be solar power stations in Earth orbit, unmanned GEO-stationary space stations, large spacecraft for human exploration of Mars or a permanent base on the Moon.
- Satellite Servicing: Potential services encompass moving, manipulating or observing satellites in orbit to improve their state or to extend their lives. This could be provided by using tugs, changing components or by adding modules.

The "Knowledge Café" ( "read more") is an easy to use method to foster collaborative dialogues, particularly in large groups. It is also a method for social learning that taps into our capacity to share diverse perspectives, create new knowledge and shape the future together.
Topics for discussion were organized as "Tables" chaired by a "Host".
